First Happy Holidays to everyone from our DTR family to yours!

Was able to get into today for some research and some charting. I ended up working on a multiple time frame video that explains in detail how I use the daily and 60 Min charts together. The video goes into a lot of other tips to hep you find the best setups. I also did a members HPS watchlist that takes us into the final week of the year which as you know is very bullish in the historical stats.  This situation does not mean we are guaranteed a up week but I do believe the odds are in our favor. I focus on mostly Lane divergences in this video plus a few other patterns. I am going out on a limb with my Best Bets this week with a high end retail name that looks to good not to be in it. then I have a couple others to round out the top 3. There are other I expect to add on Tuesday but want to see how the markets react to Monday. (My concern here is there is so much focus on the Santa Claus Rally and it could end up being a sell the news event...But my hunch is not Bias tot he upside next week)

I consider this video a great educational video more then a market Radar video. Going into the final week of the year is typically bullish and the markets have a great probability of moving higher next week. That's just the fact jack, But more important on this video is seeing how I look for setups to trade and  how the different time frames come into play together when we have a great High Probability setup. Tons of great info here Hope you gain some knowledge and some discipline. 2 things that are prerequisites for becoming a successful trader. Establishing a framework for your entries and exits is key and improving on it is a life long process as the markets are always evolving. You must evolve two. Tune in every day for live market coverage and trades www.daytradingradio.com

I will updating the HPS watchlist more on a daily basis to take advantage of any setups that appear out of the blue, and continue to do the weekly recap as normal. Today The market gave us a nice opportunity to get into the $SPy early and it felt right to take it off and like in the nice profit before the day ended. The markets have been very indecisive and the concept of follow through days have disappeared with the lack of volume.

The Santa Rally is right around the corner and the question is have traders begun to take a position for that.

I think they have and will be looking to continue to focus on the SPY again tomorrow but also some stocks that are outlined in this video

    Stocks covered for tomorrow

along with a market radar for the $ES_F

The Video can be found here

$M (Macy's) is one of my best bets for tomorrow

Also the December Membership Sale is coming to an end at the end of the Month

Please consider taking advantage of the big discount offered on the Yearly and Lifetime

First thing I want to do is send my best wishes to Paul and his family and wish his father a speedy recovery. I talk to Paul all the time and even though I never met his father I know how great a guy he is, I was very upset when I heard he was sick. I talked to Paul after the close and everyone is in good spirits. Please send your thoughts and Prayers

Christmas week and the week leading up to it has always been a tough week for me historically. So much that every year my wife reminds me to not trade in December. It seems to put stress on the whole family and myself with everything that come with December. The chart below show that December is one of the most volatile months of the year and even though we saw how volatile it can be over the last week we need to recognize that the last 2 weeks of the month are the strongest 2 weeks of the year.

Next week is Christmas week and even though i expect the recent 2 day flush to be just part of the volatility that comes with all the recent news and time of the year. I am waiting till Tuesday to start taking a position for the last week of the year. This seem like an early Christmas gift to see the SPy get pummeled right before Christmas the Problem is I was holding some SPY calls into this pummeling.

I wish I could have waited a bit more but the Combination of the rate Hike and Option Expiration had be looking for a further push even when the 60 Minute time frame was clearly over bought. I will make up for that next week.

The video this week is short and to the point I want to wait til Tuesday to get a better feel and maybe a better price on some trades I want to take. I am not really looking at stocks this week and want to take the trade in the SPY into the end of the year. That I will be charting out live next week.

The Santa Claus rally is not a sure thing, but the market this week almost feels like it was designed for the event.

    Here is this week Video

Here are some great charts representing the opportunity leading into the end of the year

This last chart is from Ryan Detrick, CMT and great follow on twitter

So next week we should be pretty busy, I am going to start doing more Member Nightly Video's as the recent swings in the market need to be acted on on a faster time frame and a weekly video can get out of date fast. So look for updated member video's nightly starting next week.

Have a great weekend and see you in the markets monday

  • Market Radar for December 18th Quadruple Witching

Markets doing a classic reversal lower a day after a positive response to the rate increase. Markets have shown this type of volatility before and if you cancel out any type of personal opinion  on how the market should react to these events you will see nothing has really broken from the norm. The 60 Minute time frame had gotten overbought and we had the 5 min coiled stochastic sell signal. There is no reason for me to try to go against something that is considered a perfect HPS zone to short or sell.  There was money to be made today I missed it because I over thought the process. Tomorrow is up in the air as it is quadruple witching, But will be watching mid morning for to see if we get any 60 minute reversal candles.

We had everything set up perfect on the technical side of things today even down to the 5 min lane divergence around 11:30. At that point I picked up some Spy Calls. With the bounce today we could have the start of what could be the next rotation up, This is a very short 6 Min update on why the move happened and what is expected to happen tomorrow.

Now remember the FOMC is on Wednesday and we have Quad witching at the end of the week.  In either case We have a technical buy signal .. Dual time frames, stochastics, Channel and trap door trend line plus a divergence.

  • Market Radar and Upcoming Rate Hike

    daytraderockstar post

    posted by daytraderockstar

Here is the Market Radar Video for Tuesday and Wednesday

The market is repeating a pattern that it traded in early November. Everything down to  the moving averages are similar. Short term signals are mixed and so are longer term. Caution on overall direction but You have to be impressed with resilience of the markets.

Fed Rate hike is right around the corner and I would put a 90% probability of that happening this month... So what happen then?  Lets look back at the last Fed Rate Hike

The last time the Federal Reserve raised rates was in June 2006, and there have been three times since 1994 that the markets have faced a rate hike after a lull like the U.S. is seeing now.

Here's what happened those three times, according to Kensho,a market analytics tool. Both the materials sector and the industrials sector traded positive 100 percent of the time in the three months leading up to the hikes, with average returns of 11.64 percent and 9.95 percent, respectively. The worst performing sectors during that time were consumer staples and utilities stocks, both with average returns down about 1 percent.

Well we know the Basic Material Sector has not kept true to form as it is the worst performer over the last 3 months leading up until this action

I feel the data is a little misleading and we should not take it for face value.

In the past six rate-hike cycles dating to 1983, the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index declined on the day of the Fed’s first rate increase three times, or 50% of the time. The biggest Day 1 loss was in February 1994, when the benchmark stock index cratered 2.3%, according to data from Birinyi Associates. In contrast, stocks jumped 2.3% after the first rate hike in January 1987 and 1.6% following the initial increase in June 1999.

Here are some interesting charts to look at but when it comes down to it for me as a trader it might be just better to lighten the load and not take any big bets either way. But my gut is telling me have some spy puts for protection if you are holding long into the decision.

I love statistics as much as the next person, but this market is at a place and time where we cannot really compare it to past events, we are in uncharted territory as the Fed as taken over the steering wheel and the market is not driving on its own any more.

If the Fed Rate Hike causes the markets to go into a tail spin it will only be a matter of time before they announce another round of stimulus

See you tomorrow in the markets..The Futures are trading down -9.00  it is not looking to good as we start off the overnight session

    Yes it has.

This weeks watchlist goes over some of the reasoning behind the volatile trade over the last 3 days. It was a real roller coaster ride and I know it took a lot of people by surprise. I discuss the 60 min time frame and how it took an extra day to trigger the move back up.

This upcoming Monday starts us off again over bought on the 60 min time frame and a sell bias on the daily. The overall feel of the market is strong but we want to be as close to spot on as we can with calling the short term trend. There is a huge advantage in trading with the short term trend and the way the market ended today makes it a tricky setup for early next week.

all this and more is discussed in the first part of the Video.

The rally today was impressive and it repaired and saved my Spy calls  and AAPl calls i had going into Friday. I will be the first to say I got lucky and being able to get out of these with small losses or break even was a big win in my book and if i held them longer they would have all returned nice profits, but i didn't want to take the chance of giving it back.

With the break down on wednesday and Thursday we hot some stops on the HPS list $R pulled back to the lower wedge line I am still holding calls in it but It definitely looks weak.

$EAT also broke some support but now has set up into a nice Lane Divergence and along with DRI look to head higher next week. There is  so much more on the video and members can view it

    This week's HPS Video Watchlist

Should be a exciting week coming up I look forward to trading with you all on Monday

and don't forget we have a December Special going on for yearly and Lifetime memberships

Click here for all the information.

December Holiday Special Limited time only w/ Prices never to be seen again.

I also wanted to share something I wrote up the other night and posted on my facebook. It's been a emotional week with more shootings taking place. The DTR community is always effected as many traders have strong feeling on how to deal of react to these events. It makes us all angry and sad. Let's Please keep the political opinions out of the chat rooms for the benefit of the overall community of traders. But let's not forget the hero's and victims.

I Just watched the latest police briefing on TV with one of the first responding officers on the scene.  Lt. " Mike Madden"

As a human being you instinctively what is right and what is wrong you can feel sadness for people who are hurting and happiness for those who accomplish great things. Watching this officer step up to the mic and recount what it was like experiencing the terrible event that was all around him. I saw the pain and felt it. It is something I don't know if i could even do. These are the men and women who we call apon when you need help. Like he said, you don't call on the police when your having a good day. This officer and all the others will be forgotten by the weekend but not by me, He struck a cord in me and it goes without saying he and all his fellow officers are heroes and in this messed up world we live in. Every man and woman who put that uniform on every day and do a job that is unlike any job you will every have needs to stay strong and not give up in doing what we all need them to do. What pained me the most was the sadness in his eyes knowing that the country he lives in and serves has been manipulated into believing cops are brutal thugs or something I can't even put my finger on probably because it doesn't make sense. These men and woman get a bad rap because there are bad cops but put anything in perspective and the good always outweighs the bad and the world we live in today just makes it easier to focus on the bad. We don't care about the cop that delivered a baby or was first on the scene and performing CPR or any other unimaginable thing we as an average citizens pray we don't have to deal with at any point in our lives not just one day. I am proud to be an american and to know if I call 911 someone will be there morning noon or night, to help me.

The Officer tonight won't see my post tonight but he made an impact on me and I know in the morning I will pass that on to my son and hope I make an impact on him that hero's don't all wear capes.
