  • This Week's HPS Video and Educational Video on Dual Time Frames

    daytraderockstar post

    posted by daytraderockstar

    Mar 21, 2014 9:10 pm

This week's watch list is a straight shooter. We left off on Friday with the markets closing near their lows for the session. The daily and 60 min time frames are turning over and this could lead to more downside next week. Friday's volume was attributed to "Triple Witching Friday" and this could have also played a part in Friday's selling. Most of last week's quality High Probably Setups (HPS) are still waiting to be triggered and that could happen if we do see some more downside. I added $TGI after recording the video so i will post the chart here  and list it on the HPS page.

This week's watch list video can be found here

And a full list of the HPS stocks can be found here

I also did an extra video breaking down the "Dual Time Frame Entry Method" which I used in $LULU

  • Midweek Update with Some Great Charts to Watch

    daytraderockstar post

    posted by daytraderockstar

    Mar 18, 2014 8:35 pm

A fast note on some great setups for mid-week. Charts are showing up very clear. The market has digested the current Russian news and looks to be eye-balling new highs. Before we get too excited, we have an FOMC Rate decision and more taper talk scheduled for 2:00 pm est, Wednesday. The last appearance from Chair Janet Yellen, was received very bullishly by the markets. I can't see much different this time around. As long as the issues are out in the open, this market seems to fear nothing. Expect the unexpected to stop this market in it's tracks. Good luck on figuring out when that will happen. Until then, business as usual. Let's continue to profit and be disciplined.

SPX  healthy flag and bullish crossover. A cross back over negative would be something I would consider very bearish.

    Great flags right now:

    "X" marks the spot trade

One of this week's "Best Bets" was LULU. Here are two charts that show you how to time a channel entry. The entry on LULU was seeing the 60 min stochastic coiled up as we were already oversold on the daily. The 60 min. time frame really tightened up as the price touched the lower channel line that was part of a 1-2-3 pattern.

Even though I would have loved 44.00 on this, the dual time frame and the coil made me want to get in.

Here is another coil that is forming in the market this week.

Hope you got something out of that. See everyone tomorrow morning live here on daytradingradio.com

What  happens in the Ukraine this Sunday should have an effect on the overall markets come Monday morning. The "citizens" of the Crimea region will be voting to secede from Ukraine setting the stage for the peninsula to return under Russian control. The Ukraine, U.S and the European Union contend the referendum is illegal. How will this play out in the markets? The markets technically could get damaged here as the daily chart continues to show more weakness ahead, but the shorter time frame (60 min) is bullish. This all goes out the window though because events like this trumps technical's and trend lines.

Daily Chart doesn't seem ready yet and 1810-1800 lingers lower as a possible target. But first stop will be the 50 ema around 1820

This week's watch list is great! Quality names and great levels coming into play. Most of buy zones are lower and this could work out great if there is any negative impact in the market.

There are 3-4 Best Best among the 14 great patterns that are all detailed and mapped out for you this week here in the members watch list video

all the HPS setups and charts can be found here

I always like to throw a Kick Ass Trade out for non-members and this week I am giving you a great one.

  • Great Flags and HPS for Thursday and Friday

    daytraderockstar post

    posted by daytraderockstar

    Mar 12, 2014 10:24 pm

When I was sitting down to do some research tonight, I knew I was going to find some gems. I was not disappointed. Instead of making a video a video, I just posted the charts here and added a few lines to describe each setup and what looks the best.

I only got through maybe a 1/4 of my watch list before realizing there are some really great setups. It made me consider the possibility that we will be seeing the markets move higher and making new highs before getting any real pullback.(SPX).

Let's get started so I can get back to some mindless reality shows.

I will save the best bet for Thursday and Friday for the end of the list. Almost all are equally as great, I will try to weigh them out a little more down below.

ETR -  This is on the HPS Watchlist this week and performing perfectly. Check watchlist for targets and alerts.

DUK - Talked so much about this on the watchlist and focused on it all day. DUK is working perfectly and I'm looking for follow through tomorrow. This could be the beginning of a bigger trend higher.

D - I wish it was as easy as it looks. The setup seemed obvious and it's a beautiful HPS flag. But you know about this stock from this weeks watch list. Let's take a look at some new ones.

BIIB - Wide flag. this is probably #2 Best Bet. "Wide flag" is something that has discernible pivot areas. I find this easier to time and is normally more reliable. Great stock. Nice flag.

AEP - Why aren't you in this? Best Bet #1

DLB - Got out of DLB way too early. Still love it as a play for the year. I might get back in. Great outside day candle should propel this past 46.

There are others that are popping up. I want to do a full scan tomorrow morning before the open so we can get a lot more setups before the open. Plan on that to happen 8:45am et. Until then, goodnight

  • How to Trade Flags and This Week's HPS Watch List

    daytraderockstar post

    posted by daytraderockstar

    Mar 07, 2014 8:14 pm

This week's watch list is packed with great setups. Before I get to the review video, I am going to go over how I trade Flags in the High Probability Setup (HPS) system. This week's video has 3 best bets that all come from the same sector. Can you say sector rotation?  l would like to see this in the upcoming week and it could also be a safety sector that might find some interest if the market pulls back soon. I am not calling for a top and will just see how things look early Monday morning. Market's will still be focused on headline risk. I like the gradual scale in on the SPXU, but not in very small increments.

This Week's Watch List can be found here

This next part is a small piece of the HPS methodology section: How I Trade Flags.

Flags and Pennants: Whats great about flags? For one thing they are on every time frame.  I have a technique on the 1 minute chart that is up close to 85% success rate when it appears. You will this find in the future HPS section. Flags usually consist of multiple indicators that I use in the HPS. It is a great pattern but, you need to have converging indicators line up at the same time.

Flags and Pennants are short-term continuation patterns that mark a small consolidation before the previous move resumes. These patterns are usually preceded by a sharp advance or decline with heavy volume and mark a mid-point of the move.

When trading a flag,  I want the stochastics to be oversold and the price to be above the 20 ema or 50 ema. This is a guide for me and not a hard set rule. I mostly look for this set up on the daily time frame. In some cases the price will chop around the 20-50 ema. You don’t want to be so exact that you miss some great opportunities. Many times, you will see the price drop below the 20-50 ema, just to see it close back above it by the end of the day.

    The keys are:

    1. Trend is intact, we are pulling back but holding above the previous pivot low.

    2. Stochastics making a fast rotation back to oversold levels <20 as the price makes a very organized pullback but hold above the 20-50ema

    3. Flags like any pattern have a unique look to them. Basically they are mini channels that should be traded like any other channel (Channel Lesson) “Make sure it looks like a flag”

This combination has had high probability of success. In my experience, it works over 70% of the time. That would increase depending on other convergences at that time (trend lines, reversal candles, ect).

Flags are continuation patterns and usually show up multiple times in a row. It is important to identify them early in the trend so you can profit from them.

Here are some examples of my trade-able flag setup

Let's start with the daily time frame:

Let's break down how to trade the flag.

Breaking down the daily time frame into a 60 min time frame, shows you a great entry technique called the “Daily 60 Stochastic Combo” which is a multiple time frame trigger when both the 60min stochastics oscillator get oversold at the same time the daily stochastics are oversold.

Because the daily is a slow moving time frame, the combo doesn’t happen every day but when it does it should be considered.

The next chart has the same flags that we had on the daily now broken down to the 60 min time frame. You can see the channel much more in detail and the much quicker rotation of the stochastics.

The technique above, as with any setup, is dependent on market conditions. Flags are great in a trending market, but trends can be defined and spotted in any time frame. You can have a trend develop on the 5 min time frame or a 1 min time frame. Understand your time frame and what to expect from it. The 60 min/daily combination is great for swing trades and the 60 min is a trigger that could be a great scalp also.

You can trade the 60 min flag by itself. You don’t have to always wait for the combo to setup. I will go over the 60-15-5 combo in the next section

    Have a great weekend Everyone
