And its a great one. I've been here all day and into the night, but the results are worth it. Check out this weeks watch list video here http://daytradingradio.com/10for1000 The charts are broken down and alerts are all set up to go out when triggers are hit. http://hps.daytradingradio.com/

The Dow Jones Industrial Index DJIA, the S&P 500 IndexSPX, and the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP all finished higher Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman, Ben Bernanke, reiterated his claim that the central bank has the means to “ease financial conditions and strengthen the recovery.”

Not really into breaking down the S&P chart this week as news again will be the final factor. One thing to remember, this is the last week of the month and then we get back to work. I know from my own statistics, that Sept and Oct bring a wave of hungry investors back into the markets. So, lets get ready to rock this week. Best Bets this week $COF, $OXY, and $CHKP

    Last week's trades

There is little economic data due the week before the three-day Labor Day holiday weekend and the Fed retreat—may prove to be as quiet and have a lack volume as much of August has had.
Data that may come into play in the coming week include the June Case-Shiller home price index on Monday, the GDP revision for the second quarter on Wednesday, July personal income and spending on Thursday, and the Chicago PMI on Friday.

Congrats to "airman" on winning the Ultimate Trader Showdown Tournament!  Great effort by "athen" today, but "airman" was too strong and came out on top.

Airman will now go up against DayTraderRockStar with the opportunity to win DTRS's money. The match will be scheduled sometime in the next two weeks.  If airman beats DTRS, he will take home half of the profits that he made during the match.

We hope you enjoyed the first part of the Ultimate Trader Showdown competition and we look forward to having many more of them in the future.

Special thanks to Vankar for all of their support during the matches and letting us use their platform.  If you liked what you saw during the matches, check out their trading platform here.

  • The Carrot Trade is Back on!!

Today, the Fed released its minutes from the last FOMC meeting and in it was the proof the market was looking for for additional "easing".

"Many members judged that additional monetary accommodation would likely be warranted fairly soon unless incoming information pointed to a substantial and sustainable strengthening in the pace of the economic recovery," the minutes said.

This is all it took for the markets to regain most of the losses for the day. The overall statement suggest that the Fed will not hold off to much longer if the data doesn't improve.

"The probability of [Fed action] coming in mid-September now seems to be higher," said Paul Ashworth, chief U.S. economist of Capital Economics. "One or two of us economists thought the slightly better data in recent weeks might have put the Fed off, but I wouldn't have thought so reading these minutes."

Well honestly I was surprised to hear a more positive tone towards easing from the minutes. The minutes showed Fed officials decided not to act right away because they wanted to gather more data on the economy and evaluate how earlier measures were working. That all points to the Sept jobs report and the next Fed meeting Sept 12-13. The carrot is back in front of the market and until something knocks it down. I won't be expecting a significant pull back.

Right now the 60 minute stochastics have been forecasting a clear buy zone each time it has pull back. Yesterday (Wednesday) it got oversold again for the first time in 3 weeks. The late day bounce probably could be contributed to the Fed minutes but it still looks great when you see that indicator perfectly time a bounce.

Don't forget Thursday is the Finals for the Ultimate Trader Showdown the winner goes on to trade against me with my money no risk and the skies the limit on what they can make. Match start tomorrow live with the market open @ 9:30am est

Good luck to Athen and Airman

Nothing has changed much on the charts. There is a narrow range trading that has occurred over the last 2 weeks. Basically, there is no reason to expect anything different. We should get it out of our minds that we're going to pick the top in this market. When that time comes we will surely be aware of it.

Right now,  traders seem to be flip flopping on whether the Fed will hold off on any type of additional stimulus at the Sept meeting. Recent data has improved (employment data, retail sales and housing).  I have been calling this market the "Carrot Market," where the possibility of a positive market moving event is right there in plain site and the markets are trading up into any such event. This should continue until that hope diminishes or something else takes the spotlight.

There are many events that are in the near future that could effect the markets.

This Wednesday, the Fed releases it's minutes from the last FOMC.

Europe debt issues will still be in focus and it seems like Greece leaving the Euro might be back on the front burner.

The focus on the Treasuries is at an all time high as this is a vital piece of the puzzle and will have a direct reaction to any important news good or bad.

Another big event will be this Friday when Bernanke, the central bank's chairman, speaks at the Fed's annual symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Since last meeting, event data has improved and this looks to be a nonevent in my eyes.

The next big event will be both the September Fed meeting and the ECB rate decision in September. As this approaches, the election hype will start getting into high gear. Of course, there will be issues. There is a chance that the Fed will take action. Will it be focused on for the wrong reasons or as an election tactic for Obama?

That leaves the market off right where it began. All talk and no action. Eventually that will play out and get old.

    But not yet...

The "Carrot Market" lives on! The September meeting is the one I am worried about. The Jackson Hole comment won't amount to much, and the focus will shift to the September meeting. A lot can happen between now and then, but I expect the trend to hang tough going into Sept 1st. At that point, I want to really be prepared for anything. September-October-November will have the biggest chance of market turmoil and I am planning to be at my most nimble.

For this week Green Arrow Up the video outlines some fantastic set ups and of course the Best Bet of the Week.

    http://daytradingradio.com/10for1000

Another great week with the HPS set ups

DISCA: Was a short (Great Trade)

PAY: Did the right think to get out on the embedded stochastics (News weighing on stock)

DB: Each time DB give me a opportunity on a gap down, I like it (Great Trade)

DLTR: Scalp bought on earnings reaction, but the report was not that bad moved right back up (Great Trade)

CCJ: Held for a couple weeks (Great Trade)

PLCE: Sold most before earnings and held a small amount. Earnings were good and would have made a lot more. But the earning hold has been most of my losses on trades. The HPS set ups work out close to 75% more then half of the 20% losers are from holding into earnings.

CY:  Took the trade off but it ended up working fine, Chart showed nice double bottom in channel

GS: Overnight hold and took profits fast in morning. GS tends to make its biggest move at the open. (Great Trade)

Next week looks to be even better with this week's watch list

As you may already know, Daytradingradio.com will be on the road today broadcasting from our mobile platform in celebration SuperStockJockey.com NASDAQ closing bell ceremony.  Mobile coverage will start around 12:15PM EST . As you know with any live broadcast at times the signal could go out causing the DTR video to pause or change over to a video playlist. If this happens we will do our best to recover the broadcast while on the road. Once we Arvie at the event our intention is to switch back over to unattended coverage from the DTR office. During ANY time you may also choose to watch the web cast footage from this page http://www.nasdaq.com/marketsite/bell-event.html . Details and directions on how to watch this coverage is on the right side bottom of that page. In my exp, saving the playlist files to your desktop and then opening the stream with Windows Media Player gets the best results. You may find that keeping the DTR video on and the Nasdaq deed will work best to make sure you don't miss any of the coverage. Aug 05, 2012 5:39 pm

Last week we really tightened up the discipline and waited for the entries to come to us. I stress that fact a lot in this week's video and even though the markets seem to be teetering on whims of Global Central banks. Stocks still give great opportunities if you can identify them before they happen instead of seeing them after the fact. That's a core belief of mine and why so many traders get chopped up in this market. Just being reactive to the moves in the market will get you trapped more often then being proactive and identifying entry and exit zones before they happen. A great watch list that focus more on Financials this week and Financials could help this market make a run to recent highs.

Flag formations have made a big impression the last 2 week's and this has been a positive sign as a flag is pretty much a continuation pattern or the current direction. These flags continue to set up and I have pointed out some early trends that we will be following over the next few weeks and revisiting them each time they flag out.

Here is 2 examples of flags 1st is COST and it shows how the trend is really defined by the flags

The 2nd Is where we want to identify new trending stocks, PAY one of the Focus stocks for this week
